About › Origins

The GreenPoint Group is named in honor of Greensburg, Kansas, a small Midwest town that was devastated by a tornado in May 2007. Greensburg has earned national and international attention through a remarkable rebuilding effort that is using new and better methods to create a sustainable future.

The Greensburg story also provides a compelling example of U.S.-China cooperation.  In December 2008, as part of the U.S.-China Strategic Economic Dialogue’s EcoPartnership Program, Greensburg’s mayor and other officials visited Mianzhu, a city that had been destroyed in Sichuan province’s May 2008 magnitude 8.0 earthquake. Under the program, Greensburg has shared its expertise and best practices in rebuilding.

The GreenPoint Group is honored to partner with the Greensburg community in supporting local high school student fellowships for multi-year summer study-abroad in China, 2011-2013.
